The Blue Project 21st January 2022

The Colchester Arts Centre

Catherine May and Andrew Allen are joined by Tim Pells (guitar), Michael Allen (percussion) and Mary Pells (cello) for a performance of Joni Mitchell’s Blue album. This project has been two years in the planning and after two postponed dates in 2020 and 2021 we are delighted to be finally performing at the Colchester Arts Centre on the 21st January

Blue is one of the most highly regarded albums of the past 50 years. Many of the songs have become standards and have been performed and recorded countless times. The album is however rarely performed as a whole. Every song is a gem but the striking thing about this album is the way that it makes such a strong cycle of songs. Blue is an intimate and soulful set of songs in which Joni Mitchell spoke directly about her inner thoughts, cares and conflicts. It was met with immediate success when first released in 1971 and has grown in significance over the intervening years.

 Tickets are £12 from:

It will be a seated audience with all current Covid safety precautions in place.

Headgate Concert 8th Sept

We are really looking forward to this concert. Preparing the music has been both musically rewarding and stimulating. Every song is a gem and there are so many connections to be found between the songs. We’ve had lots of encouraging comments from a wide range of friends and supporters and are delighted to see that tickets are going quickly now as we approach the concert. We hope to see many of you there.

Reflections CD

2020 was a year when we all stopped.  Concerts were cancelled or postponed.  Fortunately, the guitar can be a solo instrument so I was able to continue to make music even though I could not share it either in rehearsal or concert.  This is a collection of the music that I’ve been playing over the past 6 months in my music room.  Much of it is reflective in nature and so the title for the collection became obvious.

Information about how to stream or obtain a CD copy will follow soon.

Lion Walk Concert

My next performance in Colchester will be in the Lion Walk Lunchtime series on the 28th of February.  The programme is entitled Castles of Spain.  I will be performing Moreno-Torrobas suite Castles of Spain together with pieces in the Spanish style by Granados and Albeniz.

Admission is free.  1.00 pm, light lunches are available from 12.15.

Concert in Netherlands

The performance weekend in Zaandam on the 20th January was very succesful.  The informal concert on the 20th to an invited audience of friends of our hosts Trijntje and Willem was very succesful.  A lovely evening was had by all.  On the 21st I was honoured to perform during the service at the Protestantse Gemeente Noorderkerk.
